The Carson Hocevar and Brad Keselowski feud has already become one of the talking points from the opening race of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. Now, Denny Hamlin’s comments about Spire Motorsports have added another layer to the story.
After Hocevar’s run-in with Keselowski at Darlington Raceway, Hamlin called Spire an “unserious” organization and said there were “no adults in the room.”
Spire co-owner Jeff Dickerson has now responded, and he did not exactly dismiss what Hamlin had to say.
Dickerson spoke about the situation during an appearance on Dirty Mo Media’s Gluckcast with NASCAR journalist Jeff Gluck. His response showed that he understood Hamlin was not simply throwing out a random comment.
“I mean, we’re serious enough to sue,” he said.
Dickerson then made it clear that he was not going to pretend Hamlin did not have a point.
“If anybody thinks I’m going to come on this show and say Denny doesn’t know what he’s talking about, that’s not going to occur. Denny knows absolutely what he’s talking about because I can tell you how I took it. I took it as a warning.”
The story goes back to the opening race of the 2026 Cup Series playoffs at Darlington.
During Stage 1 of the Southern 500, Hocevar got into Keselowski and sent him into the wall. That ended Keselowski’s race, while Hocevar stayed in the fight and finished 11th. Keselowski ended up 23rd.
Keselowski was clearly not ready to let it go. After the incident, he said Hocevar would eventually have to answer for it on the track.
Carson Hocevar seemed to take a different approach. Rather than getting into a war of words, he appeared to have some fun with the situation. His online store offered 6% off T-shirts, a cheeky reference to Keselowski’s No. 6 Ford.
That only kept the story going.
Hamlin was later asked about the incident on his Actions Detrimental podcast. He did not want to give Hocevar more attention, but he had plenty to say about Spire Motorsports and the way the team had handled the situation.
His criticism of the organization quickly became part of the wider story. Calling Spire “unserious” and saying there were “no adults in the room” was a pretty strong message, especially coming from a veteran Cup Series driver and team owner.
Dickerson’s response was interesting because he did not try to wave Hamlin off. Instead, he acknowledged that Hamlin knows the sport and said he took the comments as a warning.
That could make things even more interesting as the playoffs continue. Keselowski has already promised that the Hocevar incident is not going to be forgotten, and now Spire knows its handling of the situation is being watched closely around the garage.
